Last Thursday, members of LiLa (Ladies Investing / Local Angels) gathered together at Frontier RTP for the group’s quarterly Deal or No Deal session, this time with Taylor Casey of Kahmino as the guest speaker/pitcher.
Kahmino, a Cary-based startup, is looking to make searching for a home easier. They use an AI-powered platform to help users filter neighborhoods based on preferences: anything from “how walkable is the nearest coffee shop?” to “I want a historic house in a trendy area.”
Founder Casey’s investor pitch received feedback from a panel of investors and entrepreneurs that included Robbie Hardy (xElle Ventures), Molly McKinley (Redtail Creative), and Nicole Lorenzetti (Compass). The panel was able to pool together their knowledge to give more nuanced feedback.
“It was an interesting dynamic today to listen to a pitch in an industry that I have expertise in,” said McKinley. “And now with the new level of learning from the LiLa process of what to look for, it was like a convergence of all of the learning I know, as an entrepreneur and an investor, coming together.”
In response to the panel, Ramya Meenakshisunaram (attending just her second LiLa event!) noted, “As someone new to venture capital and angel investing, it was so valuable to hear how an experienced panel approaches due diligence and the first meet with a founder. Hearing them discuss the pitch was incredibly insightful in understanding how to ask follow up questions and gauge a founder further.”
The panel’s thoughts were followed by additional feedback from members, who were given the floor to speak about what they thought of the pitch and what the company might look like if an investor pursued it.
