On Friday (August 22nd) Ladies Investing/Local Angels, aka LiLa, met at Boxyard RTP to discuss the book “Likeable Badass: How Women Get the Success They Deserve” by Dr. Alison Fragale. The book weaves together research and practical advice to give strategies of success to women in the corporate world. A strong contingent of LiLa members (26 to be exact) turned out to discuss the lessons from the book.

The event began with networking before launching into a discussion led by Juee Tendulkar. By and large, the group appreciated the emphasis Dr.Fragale places on being authentic in the workplace, and not feeling the need to apologize for putting forth ideas and speaking up in meetings and everyday workplace activities.
There were also points made by members about negative associations women are inherently taught to attach to words like “power” and “assertive,” and how we can go about disentangling these associations by seeking mentorship and community with other women.

Overall, the group felt like the book was well-structured and appreciated its emphasis on turning thoughts into actions (through activities such as journaling and meditation).
If you’re interested in delving deeper into “Likeable Badass,” CED‘s Strength in Numbers (SIN) group is hosting Dr.Fragale on September 24th from 2-5pm. She will be giving a fireside chat and signing copies of the book. You can sign up to attend here.
