It’s Friday, which means two things: 1) The weekend is finally here; 2) The Friday Nooner is back with an all-new episode. This week Joe and Pete welcome Bridget Harrington, the Executive Director of Innovate Raleigh.
Here are just a few of the many, many highlights:
- Joe and Pete broke down the NFT (non-fungible token) craze. The short version: an NFT is a blockchain-based digital certificate of ownership for a distinct digital asset. The “asset” could be a gif, jpeg, video, tweet, pdf or really anything that can be put into digital form. While NFTs have been around for a few years, they have really exploded in popularity in the last few months.
- A discussion of “digital pets,” like the ’90s-era Tamogatchi, led to an unforgettable segue about one of Joe’s hermit crabs escaping from his childhood home in Akron, Ohio, and somehow making it all the way down the block.
- Bridget joined around the 20-minute mark to let us know how Innovate Raleigh supports the local entrepreneurial ecosystem, while also subtly revealing that she is on a first-name basis with at least two of the founders of Twitter. The trio then debated whether the first “e” in “ecosystem” is long or short. It was decided that it was simply a matter of taste, not of right/wrong.
