Brian Handly is not only the CEO of Raleigh-based Reveal Mobile, a locations-based marketing and analytics company. He also was the Co-Founder and CEO of Accipiter, which had two exits, and interestingly enough, a (quite fast) runner in a turkey suit in the Wake Forest Gobbler’s Run. But this week, Handly is also the guest of the Pete Meets… podcast.
Reveal Mobile processes data for location-enabled phone apps, analyzing foot traffic patterns and audience building. Marketers come to Reveal Mobile to reach certain groups, such as anyone who’s been to a Walmart in the past 90 days, Handly said. Reveal Mobile also enables companies to see if advertising campaigns resulted in foot traffic back to their stores.
Before Handly’s career as an entrepreneur, he was a self-described farm boy in a small Missouri town. He said if his father had his way, he would still be a farmer. But instead he chose the tech life.

Three highlights
- “Every crisis leads to opportunity.” While Accipiter’s exit stories had many twists and turns, Handly said he would absolutely do it again. [17:36]
- Hear Handly’s thoughts on new privacy regulations and where he sees a lot of room for improvement for apps and data use transparency. [34:36]
- What does Handly think entrepreneurs must bring to the table? He says you have to sacrifice the comforts and be willing to live on a “rice and beans diet.” [41:57]
